Hope Upstream: Pursuing Prevention
There were 607 suicides in New Zealand last year in addition to 40x more suicide attempts. Suicide devastatingly impacts approximately 135 people per death.
We need to do more to stop the pain and suffering of suicide.
Over the weekend of 14-16 October, we plan to run, walk, bike, row or swim 1km to acknowledge each of these deaths by suicide or suicide attempts. That’s a bold goal of 24,000 km in total and we need your help to get there!
Please visit https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/pursuing-prevention to donate to this worthy cause and record how many kilometers you’re prepared to contribute. Once you’ve completed your km’s, jump online and post proof of your contribution (screenshot, selfie, Strava map etc.) to the Hope Upstream socials.
Here’s an example of how we can reach our goal:
24,000 people x 1km
4,800 people x 5km
2,400 people x 10km
1000 people x 24km
Initial fundraising efforts will go toward the research and publication of The Hope Report – a report showcasing suicide prevention initiatives from around the world working or showing promise with an initiative lens. The ultimate goal is to provide a menu of options that could be evaluated in a New Zealand context.
Hope Upstream will create an evaluation framework, conduct a global scan over approximately 3+ months and then produce a report.
