Inspiring Women – Women in Technology Panel
Panel discussion highlighting successful Women in Technology and their career journeys.
Women have always played a massive role in advancing digital technology. From its inception with Grace Hopper and her machine-independent programming languages, to the women behind the Apollo space missions, all the way to today’s Susan Wojcicki of Google and YouTube, women have left an indelible mark on the world of technology.
So why is it that women make up only 25% of the digital technology sector in New Zealand? Tech careers can be highly paid and flexible, as well as give you the ability to work in loads of different industries and with some really cool tech. And it’s not just good for the employees – studies show that companies with greater diversity at all levels are higher performing and meet customer needs better. Getting women into IT careers is important and it all starts with education!
UCOL’s Inspiring Women event is all about showcasing local Manawatū women in tech and their amazing career journeys, what inspires them and why they are passionate about IT. Attendees will be able to ask their burning questions about IT careers, network with the panellists over some free kai and enter in the running to win a $100 Noel Leeming voucher.
Join UCOL, ManawaTech and Author-it on Tuesday 17 May, 12pm – 2pm at the Globe Theatre 2 (Main Street, Palmerston North) and prepare to be amazed by the opportunities open to Manawatū women in the tech scene.
